The Clunes Museum is housed in the former warehouse (c.1860) of contractors Nicholl and Wallace who supplied building materials and hardware to miners, farmers and residents. Since then, it's many and varied uses reflect the town's history and, of course, it is very much part of the town's celebrated 19th century street-scape. Between the wars, it was part of the original knitting mill in Fraser Street. During WWII, it was used as a hostel for families. After the war, it was a hairdresser's for many years as well as an upholsterer's, a dressmaker's and even a fish and chip shop. The redeveloped building, now known as The Warehouse - Clunes to reflect it's 19th century history, reopened in 2014 and it operates as a Hub housing the Museum, the Library, the Visitor information Centre, the Hepburn Shire Service Centre as well as event and meeting spaces.
Clunes Town Hall
The Clunes Town Hall and Court House is a striking and eclectic municipal building design by Percy Oakden, and a rare rural example of a combined Court House and Town Hall.
Built in 1872-3 the distinctive Victorian free Classical style building reflects the civic pride of a gold town at the peak of its prosperity, with many original period features intact. The hall is regularly used to events, meetings and functions. Visit during the Booktown festival and enjoy an event in the spectacular hall. Why not book the space for your next function?
The venue is available for hire for weddings, celebrations, fundraising events and other functions. For bookings or further information contact The Warehouse - Clunes on 03 5321 6131.
Here at Daylesford Cider we produce a range of multi-award winning ciders made using the 17 varieties of English-heritage listed cider apples we grow organically on the farm just outside Daylesford. The styles of cider range from traditional ‘still’ with an almost bone-dry palate, through to lightly carbonated and sweeter ones.
It only seems fitting that our ciders are sold from an English style Tavern cellar door. The Tavern offers a cosy setting in Winter and in Summer people can kick back in the courtyard and landscaped gardens and enjoy the lawn games.
The cellar door is open 7 days a week serving our range of ciders to drink in or take home, as well as local and regional beers, wines & soft drinks. The kitchen is open for lunch Friday-Monday, offering a modest menu to accompany a cider or two.
We host live music, private parties, weddings, food events and more, so please get in touch to see how we can help. A Cider Makers Tour can be arranged with notice. See you soon, Cheers!
