Lake Daylesford is a manmade lake, originally a site of gold diggings, then later a Chinese market garden. The construction of the lake began in 1927 and was and still is used for many recreational activities.

No clubs or tours, just you and the company of your choice, or solo if you wish.

Choose from a selection of carefully mapped bushwalks on the tracks and trails of the Wombat Forest, according to your tastes and abilities. Be immersed in lush fern gullies or tall forest, or take in high country mountain views or dramatic river gorges. Short, medium and long, easy or challenging walks are available.

As well as the forest walks, The Lake Daylesford GPS Treasure Hunt is a new, fun and interactive game for families, friendship groups and, well, anyone who likes the trill of the hunt, teamwork and reward. Based on the International GeoCaching, it’s like a high tech treasure hunt set in beautiful surrounds.

Central Springs Mineral Reserve
Take the short stroll from Lake Daylesford, along the spillway and you will find the picturesque Central Springs Reserve.
A a grassy reserve alongside the creek, with three mineral water pumps and a free flowing spring. This is a great place for a shady picnic on a warm summer’s day and a good point to set off on a walk exploring the Goldfields Track.

Old Hepburn Pool
A lovely place for a picnic or bushwalk, the Old Hepburn Pool is situated in a beautiful bush setting, with a fascinating history. Built in the 1930’s this swimming pool was used for state swimming championships. You can still spot the lane markings still left on the pool edges.
Prior to that, this site was of great significance to the Dja Dja Wurrung people, who were the original inhabitants of this region. Follow the walking trail past the pool and down to the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve for a gentle, scenic walk. Refresh with some mineral water before heading back to your starting point.
